Our client is seeking to hire a Collections Officer who will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients to ensure timely weekly repayment of loans. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, disciplined follow-up, and effective conflict resolution. The Officer must maintain accurate records, communicate professionally, and ensure high levels of client trust while safeguarding the company’s asset finance portfolio.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain weekly communication with every client in your assigned portfolio.
- Build trusted, professional, and respectful relationships to encourage timely repayment.
- Understand client circumstances and financial behavior to offer appropriate support and serve as their primary loan account contact.
- Ensure all clients make their weekly loan repayment on time, every week.
- Conduct pro-active calls and follow-ups to remind, confirm, and secure payments.
- Monitor repayment patterns daily and identify early warning signs of potential delinquency or arrears.
- Work closely with the Finance Team to ensure accurate payment reconciliation and tracking.
- Detailed discussion and recording of all client difficulties preventing payment.
- Document all conversations, agreements, and revised commitments accurately in the Portfolio Management System (PMS).
- Maintain professionalism during difficult conversations and ensure all solutions are clear and fair.
- Timely escalation to the Collections Manager for un-cooperative clients, disputes, or unresolved situations.
- Effectively manage your portfolio of approximately 200 clients, taking corrective action for late or missed payments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date notes in the PMS for all interactions.
- Prepare periodic reports on arrears, delinquency, and overall portfolio performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in the collections process.
REQUIREMENT
- Degree in Finance, Business, Credit, or Collections is advantageous.
- 1–3 years in collections, customer service, microfinance, or credit/loan repayment roles. Experience in asset finance or asset-backed lending is a strong advantage.
- Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills. Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Portfolio Management/CRM systems and MS Office.
